As Business Psychologists, we work with individuals, leaders and teams. We use psychological knowledge to help individuals, teams and workplaces work more effectively. It helps executives lead with clarity, teams operate with reduced friction, and organizations realize ambitious business goals (such as increased profits). Most importantly, they do this by paying attention to the absence of cracks in the foundation. Business psychologists examine the underlying problems that can hinder success.
As business psychologists, we apply a wide range of specialized knowledge from organizational psychology to clinical psychology to social psychology. That's why we understand individuals, assess what's going on beneath the surface (for example, understanding deep-rooted behaviors that may affect an individual's ability to thrive in a particular system), and identify opportunities. So we understand what's really going on and what's under the surface that's driving this behavior. As business psychologists, we examine the individual and the system as an organization. We dig deep to determine how internal factors (individual and team level) are impeding business success. As a result, we understand business dynamics and can see a systems-level perspective on enterprise performance. As a business psychologist, we support in three areas:
As a business psychologist, we often start working with leaders and then support the leader in communicating his ideas to the team and the organization as well as setting the tone for the organization. More specifically, as business psychologists, we don't tell leaders how to lead or how to lead more effectively. However, through deep exploration, we help individual leaders develop an awareness of their Self, including core pathologies and strengths and how they deeply affect how they perform, lead and inspire change at work. In doing so, a business psychologist is uniquely positioned to help a leader lay the groundwork for lasting change.
As business psychologists, we help teams identify and rectify talent gaps, weak and dysfunctional systems. We aid in improving team effectiveness by utilizing information gathered during research, assessments, moderated discussions, purposeful training, and retreats.
As a business psychologist, we can perform a system-level audit of an organization to identify factors that hinder success (eg, aspects of the organization's structure or culture that may reduce productivity, impair retention, etc.). In summary, a business psychologist draws on knowledge from psychology, neuroscience, and business to improve workplace effectiveness and well-being at the individual, team, and organizational levels. In particular, we help individuals, teams and organizations in the following ways.
After clarifying the desired outcomes, we probe below the surface to identify and understand the internal or external factors that prevent the desired outcomes from being realized.
We evaluate systems, identify failures and gaps, and note what needs to be changed (eg, system problems that impede progress).
We increase alignment (for example, ensuring that individuals and teams are aligned around a core mandate) and clarify factors that may impede alignment.
We improve the decision-making process and clarify how psychology and specific cognitive skills can advance decision-making processes.
Creates awareness of options to help leaders see the complexity of any situation; we ensure that they have the perspective required to be fully aware of all the options, implications and consequences of their approach.
We broaden stakeholders' perspective to help individuals and teams get more done by understanding the larger system and identifying/replacing new ways of working/business (eg replacing old habits with more productive ones).
We support talent management (e.g. by identifying talent gaps and underutilized talent resources) to ensure the right people are performing at the right level.
We help shape the workplace culture by incorporating the right workplace psychology to ensure future success.
We support change management (eg ensuring change is sustainable, scalable and aligned with core values.
By focusing on the mental health of the whole system (i.e. the individual, the team and the organisation), we improve well-being to achieve business goals (eg, through higher productivity, higher returns and greater impact).
We identify opportunities (e.g. business levers) and help clarify which capabilities will have the greatest impact to drive sustainable change.
